What is Sculptra?

Lost volume occurs naturally during aging, particularly in the mid-face, as the cheeks become hollow and flat. Nurse practitioner Briana Torrey uses Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid-based injectable dermal filler that allows for deeper and longer-lasting volume in the cheeks. In addition to restoring the contour of the cheeks, Sculptra can decrease the look of shallow to deep lines and wrinkles, including the nasolabial folds (sometimes called laugh or smile lines) that run from the edges of the nose to the mouth's outer corners. With a unique formula approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Sculptra increases the natural production of collagen in your body so even after you stop injections, your complexion should be healthier than before Sculptra injections. Am I A Candidate for Sculptra?

Sculptra offers an excellent solution for those seeking to enhance mid-face contours without the need for surgical procedures. Suitable candidates include individuals with naturally flat cheeks or those dealing with age-related volume loss. Sculptra is also effective in addressing a range of facial imperfections, from fine lines to deep wrinkles such as marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and chin wrinkles. Thanks to Sculptra's unique formula, which stimulates the body's innate collagen production, most patients can expect noticeable improvements in both the appearance and vitality of their skin.

What Should I Expect When Getting Sculptra Injections?

Following your consultation to create your personal treatment plan, you can receive your injections in one of our private procedure rooms. The injector may use a local anesthetic or numbing cream before cleaning and marking the injection sites. Once you are prepared, the filler is injected into the deeper layers of the skin at the chosen areas of the face. For best results, Briana Torrey suggests a series of four Sculptra injections performed at Brisa Aesthetics around three weeks apart.

What to Expect After Sculptra

Following your appointment, you might encounter mild to moderate symptoms like redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site. These are typically transient and should resolve within a few days. To facilitate the healing process, applying cold packs to the injection sites can be helpful. It's advisable to minimize exposure to UV rays and apply sun protection to safeguard your skin. Many patients often notice immediate improvements right after the treatment, but the full results usually manifest after several months as the boosted collagen production fortifies the skin. If administered in a series of injections spread over 3-4 months, these results can endure for up to two years.

I’ve been following Brianna on IG for a long time and finally made an appointment for Botox. I’m so impressed with her patience and professionalism. After listening to my goals she came up with a treatment plan that I wasn’t expecting at all! Instead of Botox (which I was used to) we agreed an 8 point lift with Radiesse would give me optimal results. Im loving it! She got it right. I will be referring her to all my friends.

More About Sculptra

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra aka Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) is an FDA approved injectable collagen biostimulator that helps gradually replace lost collagen, which leads to rejuvenated, younger-looking skin. It was initially formulated and FDA-approved in 2004 to increase collagen production for the treatment of HIV-associated lipoatrophy, or severe fat loss, in the face! It restores volume while tightening and thickening the skin. This additional volume fills in lines, wrinkles and folds all over the face for a smoother, tighter appearance. Sculptra is not like a regular hyaluronic acid filler that immediately volumizes and gives visible results right away. With Sculptra, you’ll see a gradual improvement over the course of a few weeks with continued collagen production for over two years!  Slow and steady can win the race against aging with Sculptra, a filler that produces subtle results over time, Weymouth Nurse Practitioner Briana Torrey, injects Sculptra into the face to stimulate the production of collagen, which adds volume to the skin. Since the collagen’s increased production lasts for months, Sculptra’s effects have been clinically proven to last 2 years. Usually, a series of treatments are required for full results.

How does Sculptra® work?

Sculptra aka Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) works with your body deep within the skin to “activate your skin”. It signals and stimulates the skins own natural collagen production through controlled inflammatory response. Sculptra reinforces and restores the skins inner structure and foundation for improvement in overall skin health and the famous “Sculptra glow”; provides a youthful and brighter appearance.

What is the difference between filler and Sculptra?

Hylaronic acid fillers are gel substances, that diminish lines by pushing up the dermis space beneath wrinkles and creases. Results appear immediately and can last up to several months to 1 year. Collagen stimulators (Sculptra) are used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Results appear gradually over the treatment regimen (results are visibly noticeable by 4 weeks) and can last up to two years.

Who is a candidate for Sculptra?

Everyone! Sculptra treatments are best for any candidate who suffers from wrinkles and deep facial lines due to aging. Collagen production begins to decline at age 25 with a serious drop in production in the late 30s. Sculptra can not only treat but also prevent signs of aging. Based on past usage of Sculptra, typical candidates for this treatment are between 30 and 55 years old. However, younger candidates may seek this treatment to reverse the effects of aging caused by personal and environmental factors such as smoking, drug use, and sun exposure. At Brisa Aesthetics we recommend that all clients seriously consider adding Sculptra to their treatment regimens as its the future “fountain of youth”.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyones treatment plan for Sculptra will vary. Preventative use of Sculptra will require around 1-2 vials initially with reassessment at 4-6 weeks and repeat treatment if client desires. If treatment for signs of aging; initially, you will need 1-3 treatments of Sculptra (with 1-2 vials each treatment) over the span of a few months, then yearly. Yearly maintenance will require 1-2 vials per year for almost all clients.

How much does Sculptra cost?

As mentioned above, every clients treatment plan will vary. 1 vial of Sculptra is $800. The overall cost for treatment will vary depending on the number of vials and appointments needed to attain the right results. Patients will have the opportunity to speak with the nurse practitioner during the consultation to discuss cost and recommended treatment options. At Brisa Aesthetics in Weymouth, MA we offer treatment packages for special pricing. You can sign up for Aspire rewards program through Galderma for additional savings.

When will I see results?

Noticeable results are usually visible within 4-6 weeks, the best effects are noticeable around 6 months. If planning on adding Sculptra to your treatment plan for a future event please consult as when is best to have your Sculptra treatments started to have noticeable results by a certain date.

How long do results last?

Effects of Sculptra are long lasting, clinical studies have shown continued collagen production over 2 years.

How is Sculptra administered?

Prior to treatment, the face will be cleansed and the injections sites will be marked. The filler product will be injected under the skin and gently massaged so that it fills the area as needed. Sculptra is generally administered in multiple layers until the desired look and contour is achieved. The length of this treatment time can last up to a full hour. In addition to numbing the injection areas prior to treatment, this particular filler is used to recontour specific areas so the injections must be performed carefully and precisely. For the best results, it is recommended patients return a few weeks later for follow up or for additional treatment because it sometimes takes more than one appointment to attain optimal results and at Brisa Aesthetics we are invested in client satisfaction.

What to expect

Sculptra is a treatment that may take more than one treatment session to attain the perfect results. After each treatment, patients can expect to have some swelling and redness at and around the injection sites, which will subside within a few short hours and not be visible a few days after treatment. Patients are also advised to follow all aftercare instructions which include refraining from exercise for 24hours and to follow the massaging of the treatment area as directed. Our Board Certified Nurse Practitioner Briana Torrey will give each patient a full list of instructions and expectations prior to treatment. Patients will be able to immediately return to their regular daily routines following each treatment.

Will I need time to recover?

Swelling is normal and expected. Swelling occurs because Sculptra is a powder that is mixed with water at the time of your treatment. Depending on the amount of vials, the aesthetics goals and treatment areas of the Sculptra the amount of water required to mix the Sculptra varies. Once the Sculptra is injected your body will begin to naturally absorb the water; leaving Sculptra behind to work it's magic. Bruising is expected and normal, plan at least 2 weeks ahead of any special events/vacations.
