WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE MY LUMECCA TREATMENT?
Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment. No photosensitizing medications such as antibiotics or Retinol or Tretinoin for two weeks prior to your treatment. If you have a history of Herpes Simplex virus you will be started on a prophylactic treatment of antiviral medications prior to your appointment, as IPL can potentially stimulate an outbreak in the treatment areas.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY LUMECCA TREATMENT?
You will be required to wear goggles to protect your eyes from the device. A cooled ultrasound jelly will be applied to the treatment area. The tip of the Lumecca IPL device also has cooling technology to assist in optimal patient comfort. During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca IPL that feels like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
Given the power of the Lumecca IPL device, an improvement in skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage), energy settings and lifestyle factors. Typically 3 treatments every 4 weeks are recommended initially.
HOW QUICKLY WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Most clients do not experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Some clients experience redness and sensitivity that is alleviated by clear unscented aloe vera cream. Clients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning for at least 2 weeks after your treatment.
