What is PRP?
PRP Therapy for Hair Loss
Hair loss is a significant concern for many women and men, whether caused by age, genetics, hormones, health conditions, or styling products or practices. With advances in hair restoration research, PRP has emerged as a non-surgical option that may help support thicker, healthier-looking hair.
How PRP Helps
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical treatment that concentrates platelets from your own blood and reintroduces them to targeted areas of the scalp. PRP contains growth factors and bioactive proteins that may support hair follicle function and scalp health.
PRP has also been explored for select cases of alopecia areata and eyebrow thinning—your provider will discuss whether it’s appropriate based on diagnosis.

Am I a Good Candidate?
Any individual suffering from balding is potentially an excellent candidate for PRP hair therapy, while those with early hair loss tend to yield the best results. PRP is best used for patients with androgenic alopecia (an inherited type of hair loss), often along the top of the head.
Patients with areas of thinning where follicles are still active typically have the greatest success with PRP hair regrowth therapy. Your consultation will include an assessment to determine whether PRP (or a combined plan) is the right next step.
Process
How PRP for Hair Loss Works
In-Office Treatment
The PRP treatment is a short, minimally invasive process completed during a 60-minute in-office visit. The process starts with obtaining a small amount of your blood and spinning it to separate and concentrate platelets.
After a local anesthetic is administered (as needed), PRP is introduced into areas of the scalp that are thinning. Microneedling may also be performed on the scalp to create micro-channels and support PRP penetration.
Our routine for nonsurgical management of hair loss often consists of initial therapy every six to eight weeks, with maintenance therapies approximately every nine months to a year.
What to Expect After PRP
There is typically no recovery period necessary following this process, with practically no limits or restrictions. Some patients develop mild discomfort, minimal swelling, or discoloration that can last up to two days.
While outcomes differ for every individual, cosmetic results are often noticed around 4–6 months after the first treatment and can continue improving for up to a year.
It’s crucial to remember PRP does not create new follicles in areas that are already completely bald. It’s utilized to support follicle function and hair fiber quality where follicles are still present.
